Fremont’s bats were alive on Thursday, but an 11-run second inning by Reed City proved too much to overcome as the JV Packers fell 14-11.
Fremont jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first when a Samuel Mellema walk, an Elten Frederick single, and two Reed City errors combined to plate four runs. The JV Packers pushed the lead to 9-2 in the top of the second on five hits, capped by a Reece Walker two-run double, a Campbell groundout, a Bastion Barrett groundout, and a Remington Stuart RBI double.
Fremont scored once more but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Samuel Mellema took the loss for the JV Packers, going one and one-third innings and allowing nine runs — six earned — on nine hits without a walk.
Walker led Fremont with three hits in four at-bats, while Frederick added two hits in three trips to the plate. Stuart, Barrett, and Walker each drove in two runs. Mack Louis paced the team with three walks as the JV Packers drew 10 on the day. Louis, Mellema, and Frederick each swiped multiple bags, and Fremont ran freely on the bases with 10 stolen bases in the game.
